ST. THOMAS MORE

Addition and Renovation

The St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish project included major renovations to an existing 9,000 square foot, multi-level building, as well as a gracious 12,000 square foot, two-story addition. Now completed, the $4.2 million Parish is barrier free internally and externally and has a new social hall, main ground floor entry and worship space to accommodate the growing ministry. Construction began spring 2007 and was completed in spring 2008.

Extensive shoring and temporary bracing was required to preserve the structural integrity of the existing building. Support was necessary to maintain the roof structure while the entire facility underneath was rebuilt. The sloped site, nestled between two college campuses in a residential area, limits options for site access and staging; leaving no room to spare.

Miller-Davis Company’s project team took a proactive approach to protecting the structural integrity of St. Thomas More Catholic Student Parish. With the experience, equipment and creativity to self-perform complex site and building shoring as well as Steel Erection, critical early operations were controlled to stay on schedule and reduce cost to the Owner. To combat the tight conditions a detailed site control strategy and schedule was developed to create functional access and staging areas before building construction began.
