CITY OF KALAMAZOO
Kalamazoo’s stunning Transportation Center includes the historic restoration of a train station, originally constructed in 1887, and a new transfer center for Metro Transit and inter-city buses. The City’s bold and innovative gateway is a blend of historical and contemporary elements with a public plaza to provide an inviting, pedestrian-friendly space.
Miller Davis Company constructed the project under a general contract and self-performed concrete, carpentry and general trades work.
“I am extremely pleased with the performance of Miller-Davis regarding the construction of our new $13M Kalamazoo Transportation Center. As our prime contractor, they did an excellent job of project oversight, coordination, and staying on schedule,” Bill Schomisch, Director of Metro Transit.
This outstanding building and its contributors also won awards from the Southwest Michigan American Institute of Architects. Transit Director William Schomisch won the Owner’s Award, honoring an owner/representative who showed dedication to the importance of architecture and its benefits to the community. One architect, Kingscott Associates, was the recipient of the Honor Award, which is the highest award given, for the exceptional design of the Transportation Center. Another architect, Wendel Duchscherer, recently won the Diamond Award, the top award for the New York State American Council of Engineering Companies in the Transportation Category.
