LAKESIDE FOR CHILDREN
Since 1907, Lakeside for Children, in partnership with Sequel Youth and Family Services, has served about 120 at-risk boys and girls ages 12 to 18 referred through juvenile justice systems and human service agencies in Michigan and several other states. Students live in family-style cottages on the 48-acre campus and attend year-round school at Lakeside Academy, a strict-discipline charter school sponsored by Kalamazoo Regional Educational Services Agency.
This project focuses on constructing a $2.3 million, 12,900 square foot pre-engineered building to relieve the over-crowded school and provide the necessary fitness space. A regulation-size athletic court with bleachers will provide fitness space for athletic competition and wellness programming, replacing an outmoded gym built in the 1960s for elementary school aged children, as well the current makeshift gymnasium that no longer meets requirements for use. This new facility will also include four new classrooms, offices, and a multi-purpose room.
