2007 Bond Program

Two projects were funded by a $25.4 million bond proposal that was approved by Kalamazoo County voters in 2007. The public support received for the KRESA represents the Kalamazoo community’s commitment to providing the best possible education for all students and helping to maintain the high quality of life in greater Kalamazoo.

WoodsEdge Learning Center
The new 117,708 square foot LEED certified New Special Educational Building, WoodsEdge Learning Center, is designed to meet the unique needs of a special population, as this school contains the Cognitive Impaired and Autism Programs. Safety, security and ease of observation are major components for this highly specialized educational building.

Sustainable features:

97.1% of construction waste, about 3,642 tons, was diverted from landfills
26.5% of the building materials used were recycled or rapidly-renewable products
46.1% of the building materials were from within 500 miles of the project
97.4% of wood materials are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified
31.5% water savings was achieved through use of low-flow fixtures

WoodsEdge achieved LEED Gold Certification and was completed in August 2010.

Miller-Davis was a winner of Business Review’s 2010 Green Award: Green Construction – New for WoodsEdge Learning Center. WoodsEdge was also the winner of the 2010 Southwest Michigan AIA Merit Award.

Croyden Avenue School

The existing Croyden Avenue School was remodeled to house the Young Adult Program and Early Childhood Programs. Site improvements included new expanded parking, delivery and bus drop off areas and upgraded furnishings and technology equipment. Construction began in fall 2010 and was completed in summer 2011.
